Sometimes situations arise that make it impossible to scan the QR code and log in. This can be due to many different things. We have tried to list the most common issues we have encountered over the years.
Normally, anyone with an iPhone or a newer Android device can scan using the built-in camera app. This should always be tried first.
How to scan a QR code – applies to both iPhone and Android:
Open the camera app. Point it at the QR code. When the camera has identified a QR code, a pop-up/box will appear suggesting that you click it to open a web page in the browser. Click that box to continue to HonestBox.
But what if it does not work as expected?
iPhone:
If this box never appears when you point the camera at a QR code, the function may have been disabled. It is easy to fix:
- Settings
- Camera
- Enable the “Scan QR Codes” function.
Also note that if you have enabled “Private” mode, no receipt will be displayed after completing a purchase. You can always log in again, click the profile icon in the upper-right corner, and view your receipts there.
Android:
The QR scanner function built into the camera app has been available since Android version 9.0. That version was released in 2018. This means that devices less than 5 years old will be able to read the QR code directly without any problems.
If the camera app does not have a function for reading QR codes, the customer must download an app that can read QR codes.
NOTE! There are many QR apps for Android. Most of them are not very reputable. We have seen several customers experience problems when using an untrustworthy QR app. Google Lens is one that we can recommend.
Internet Connection
Try turning off Wi-Fi and then scan the QR code again.
Cookies
Cookies must be enabled for our system to work.
iPhone: Settings / Safari / Block All Cookies – this must not be selected!
Android Chrome: Open the Chrome app / Tap the three dots in the upper-right corner / Settings / Site settings / Cookies. Allow cookies.
Other browsers on Android: Read their help texts.
QR Code App
Normally, no extra app should be needed, but when one is needed, there are many to choose from.
An iPhone never needs a QR code app.
Default Browser
If you have an iPhone, Safari will always be used because Safari will launch after you scan the QR code. You will also always be taken to Safari after logging in with BankID, regardless of whether you have multiple browsers installed. However, it is now possible to change the default browser on an iPhone as well, but we have never noticed that this could cause any problems.
If you have an Android device, you can choose which browser you want to use. We always recommend the default browser, which is Chrome.
Web Page / URL / Link
For customers:
Do you see a web address/web link near the QR code? Try entering it in your browser.
For store owners:
The QR code contains a link to a web page—a unique web page for your store. As a last resort, you can provide the link to the customer so they can enter it in their browser. Log in to the system to see what your specific link looks like (it can be found under Locations). It looks like this: https://app.honestbox.se/gpmc
