Shutdown of 2G and 3G
All operators are phasing out the 3G network in favor of more modern alternatives. The 2G network will be shut down completely on December 1, 2025. This is being done to make room for newer, more modern technology. At HonestBox, of course, we are following along on this technological journey. We like new technology and adapt to what the operators do when they shut down old technology in favor of new technology. This is therefore partly outside our control, so we have to adapt.
Long-serving veteran
We have been working with the "Mobil" control box since HonestBox was founded in 2019. It has been a really good solution: simple in its function, extremely reliable, but completely dependent on the mobile network. In 2019, 3G was fully operational, and hardly anyone had considered shutting down the 2G network, so life was simple. But time passed, and the operators began shutting down their 3G networks, and then a final date was set for how long the 2G network would remain. The work of finding a worthy replacement for the "Mobil" control box could no longer wait. However, developing a completely new control box that would have "everything" and meet our high standards was no easy task. Now we have succeeded and can offer "HonestBox One." A better solution for you—HonestBox One
To avoid future problems, we have developed a completely new control box that is not dependent on the old mobile network. Instead, it can be connected via a network cable, Wi-Fi, or a 4G mobile network (a built-in router). In addition, it gives us the opportunity to help you more quickly and efficiently if any problems arise.
What does this mean for you?
- Easy installation: (more details further down this page). You do not need to make any changes to the door itself. The new control box is connected in the same way as the old one.
- No impact on the monthly cost: This upgrade does not affect your current monthly cost.
- Improved security and availability: The new control box provides you with a more stable and secure solution.

How to replace the control box

This is approximately what it looks like today:
Start by disconnecting all cables from the green terminal block.
You may have two transformers—one that powers the control box and one that powers your lock. (We cannot know this). If, as in the image above, one transformer is connected ONLY to V+ and V-, this means that the transformer only powers the control box and should no longer be used. The other transformer then powers the lock and should be used with the new control box.

This is an image of what it may look like when HonestBox has been connected.
A new transformer is included and powers the control box—nothing else. It is connected using the small black connector.
Use the same cables for the lock(s) as before.
Use the same transformer that powers the lock(s).
On the green terminal block on the control box, PORT 5 is used for the transformer and PORT 10 for the lock.
The lock and transformer are connected to each other with a WAGO connector.
When the control box is to unlock the lock, the circuit is closed for a few seconds and the lock receives power and unlocks.
You must also indicate in HonestBox Admin that you have completed the replacement.

Power Supply Control and magnetic lock
If you have a magnetic lock with an associated Power Supply Control, ports 5 and 10 should be connected directly to GND and PUSH. No transformer should be included in that connection. The Power Supply Control has power and drives the magnetic lock.
